What is Newspapers in Education?

Newspapers in Education (NIE) is a FREE program dedicated to building literacy and supporting educators in Monroe County.

This program provides innovative tools to teachers, students and parents to help motivate students at all grade levels to learn while having fun with real life activities. The daily newspaper can teach about current events, business, math, cost comparison skills, geography, history, advertising, environmental issues and much more, all while improving reading and comprehension skills.

Newspapers are considered the most up-to-date, inexpensive textbook available to students. The skills gained from regular newspaper exposure make each student a better learner, a better problem-solver, and a better leader.
